Launch of Inishowen European Innovation Partnership

Inishowen Farm Innovations CLG are delighted to welcome all interested parties to the launch and information meeting for their Inishowen Uplands European Innovation Partnership (EIP) project in Tul Na Ri, Carndonagh at 7 pm on Friday the 15th of March.

The Inishowen Uplands project is European Innovation Partnership (EIP) funded by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM) under the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. These locally led schemes promote local solutions to specific issues and involve the establishment of Operational Groups to develop ideas or take existing ideas/research and put them into practice by being hands on in terms of working towards the resolution of a practical problem.

The Inishowen Uplands “Operational group” to drive the project has been set up. This is chaired by John McGilloway,the project manager is Henry O Donnell.  The Group comprises of all local stakeholders and outside expertise and includes Teagasc, Leader, Agricultural consultants, Liam McKinney and Gerard McDaid and Dr Dolores O Byrne from Sligo IT. 

The purpose of the meeting is to outline the concepts and the measures within the program to all stakeholders and invite farmer expression of interest. 

The core measures for the project are the introduction of cattle onto upland grazing platforms, the introduction of clover and diverse swards for grazing and for fodder conservation, Agroforestry on the farm and pond creation.

As this is a pilot program it is envisaged that farmer numbers will be limited.

Dr Reamai Mathers from the Glens of Antrim resilient farms project will be the guest speaker on the night and will outline some of the work of a similar nature done in Antrim.

A representative from Environmental Systems Ltd who will be carrying out the spatial mapping element of the project will also give a presentation.
